I did this matrix at the start of my research on how other scholars dealt with the issue of academic and professional development of intelligence and security risk analysts - or anything that I thought might be relevant to my research. At that stage, I had to decide on research design, so I used the criteria of "Primary research method". This is an extremely useful tool to prevent information overload. I now have my excel sheets open whenever I do lit review. Of course you could add the actual article name, link, etc, but this was good enough for me. A few months later....As I use Mendeley for reference management, I changed my format to Word tables as I can then do referencing as well.
